Burns. They hurt, they blister, they ooze, not to mention they can’t get wet. In summertime that causes a problem for a teenage boy. Earlier this summer my 13-year-old, Blake was putting his motorcycle away and went to kick the kick stand down and missed! His shin hit the motor. Before you ask, yes, he was in shorts. He was just taking it back to the barn.

When he came and told us that he burned himself. I didn’t hear the part about the burn. I thought he had scratched it on the kickstand. OOPS!! Bad me!! We finished unloading a pickup load of wood before we figured out that it was a burn. We quickly went in the house and to work on cleaning it up and wrapping it.

I went to my favorite oil book, The Essential Oil Life and looked up burns and found that Myrrh was good for burns. I told Blake that we needed to put this on his burn. He promptly refused because he thought it was going to hurt. I told him that if Myrrh was good enough for baby Jesus, why is it not good enough for you. He looked at me a little puzzled and then said “ok, if it is good enough for Jesus, it is good enough for me”. We began putting Myrrh on then gauze pads and then we wrapped it with vet wrap. We continued doing this twice a day for about a week. I thought it would be a good idea to add Correct X but that made the healing skin look a little funny. I tried the Correct X because I love it for sores. I guess burns are different.

We stopped with the Correct X and continued with the Myrrh, and I added Geranium. After about 14 days of having it covered I made him a roller ball with the Myrrh and Geranium. He continued to apply the oil every evening. His burn has healed nicely.

I love being able to use the oils to help my family.
